Best Nutrition Coaching Software and Apps for Coaches (2026)

The right nutrition coaching software depends on what you actually do: build meal plans, coach macros and food logs, or run a clinical practice with charting and telehealth. Practice Better and Healthie suit dietitians who need insurance billing and telehealth. Scraler and similar apps suit coaches who combine nutrition with training.

In short
  • Meal plan builders (That Clean Life, Nutrium) and macro/food-logging tools are different jobs. Some products only do one.
  • Practice Better and Healthie are built for clinical practitioners: charting, telehealth, insurance billing. That is overhead most independent coaches do not need.
  • Dietitians and clinicians should weigh scope of practice and record-keeping needs before picking a tool built for coaches.
  • Scraler fits coaches who also do training: meal plans, macros, food logging, recipes and check-ins sit next to the workout builder, with payments from Premium.

What actually matters when choosing nutrition coaching software?

Nutrition coaching software covers two different jobs. One is meal planning: building a structured plan of meals and recipes for a client to follow. The other is macro coaching: setting daily targets and watching what a client actually eats through food logging. Some tools do one well and the other not at all. For a shortlist sorted by job, see best apps for nutritionists, and if you are new to the field, how to become a nutrition coach.

Meal plan builder
  • A set weekly menu of specific meals and recipes
  • Built from a recipe database or your own recipes
  • Nutritional breakdown calculated per meal and per day
  • Good for clients who want to be told what to eat
Macro / food-log coaching
  • Daily calorie, protein, carb and fat targets
  • Client logs whatever they actually ate
  • You review adherence, not a fixed menu
  • Good for clients who want flexibility inside a target

A few other things separate the products below in practice:

  • Recipe library. Whether you get a searchable database of recipes to drop into plans, or write every recipe yourself.
  • Food logging. Whether the client can log food from a database (or a photo) and see it against a daily target, not just follow a fixed plan.
  • Check-ins. A recurring form for weight, photos, adherence and how the week went, reviewed on a schedule rather than in a live call every time.
  • Client app. Whether the client has their own app or portal, or only receives a PDF or link.
  • Payments. Whether you can bill the client inside the same tool, or need a separate invoicing or payment system.
  • Scope of practice and telehealth/charting. Registered dietitians working under insurance need clinical charting, telehealth visits and sometimes billing codes. A coach giving general nutrition guidance does not, and a platform built for coaches will not have these.

Practice Better: EHR-style practice management with nutrition add-ons

Starting price
$35/mo (Starter, 10 clients)
Clients included
10 (Starter); free Sprout (3)
Meal plans
Via That Clean Life integration
Client app
Yes

Practice Better positions itself as an all-in-one practice management platform for health and wellness professionals, naming nutritionists, dietitians, mental health professionals and trainers among its users. A free tier and a higher Team plan bookend Starter. Nutrient tracking is native through a "Journaling" feature that sets daily targets and shows detail by food, meal and day.

Meal planning is not native: it comes through an integration with That Clean Life, which Practice Better acquired but still sells separately. Telehealth, scheduling and payments are built in. Best for a clinical or multi-discipline practice willing to add a second subscription for meal planning, since the builder you would actually use is a separate paid product.

Healthie: telehealth-first EHR with nutrition tracking

Starting price
$19/mo (Core, 10 clients)
Clients included
10 (Core); unlimited (Plus, $129/mo)
Meal plans
Via Living Plate Rx (Plus plan+)
Client app
Yes

Healthie markets itself as a modern alternative to legacy EHR systems, serving private practices and digital health businesses across specialties including nutrition and health coaching. A Group tier for teams sits above Plus. Macro and nutrient tracking is native through an optional "Nutrient Tracking" setting built on the Edamam food database.

Meal planning is not native: Healthie's help centre describes an integration with Living Plate Rx requiring its own membership, and telehealth, scheduling and billing are core features. Best for dietitians and clinicians who want telehealth visits and insurance-adjacent billing alongside nutrition tracking; its native recipe database is not confirmed on Healthie's own pages.

That Clean Life: a dedicated meal-plan builder

Starting price
$30/mo (Starter, 10 client shares)
Clients included
10 shares (Starter); unlimited (Plus, $60/mo)
Meal plans
Yes, native
Client app
No (web link or PDF)

That Clean Life, owned by Practice Better but still sold stand-alone, is a meal-plan builder rather than a practice-management platform, with a large recipe library and automation that can generate a plan from calories, macros and diet type. Plus adds branded PDF exports and AI Health Insights. There is no free trial.

It has no client-facing food logging or macro tracking app, and no telehealth or payments feature. Best for a nutrition professional who only needs to build and share meal plans quickly; nothing here tracks what a client actually eats day to day.

Nutrium: meal plans, macros and telehealth in one tool

Starting price
$25/mo (10 clients, first-year promo)
Clients included
10/mo, or unlimited ($39/mo promo)
Meal plans
Yes, native
Client app
Yes

Nutrium describes itself as built for nutrition professionals, used by dietitians worldwide. Its first-year promotional prices roughly double at the regular rate. Every plan includes the full feature set: a recipe database, automated macro and micronutrient analysis, client food logging, native video consultations, and Stripe-based payments at no extra software cost.

Best for a dietitian who wants meal plans, macro coaching, telehealth and payments in a single subscription without add-on integrations. A real limitation: the entry price is a first-year promotion only.

Evolution Nutrition: pre-built RD meal plans for trainers

Starting price
$59/mo (Pro, 50 to 500 clients)
Clients included
50 to 500 (Pro); 1,000+ (Enterprise, $199/mo)
Meal plans
Yes, native + pre-built library
Client app
Yes (self-service portal)

Evolution Nutrition targets personal training businesses and nutrition coaches, pitching itself as a way to scale using meal plans built by the company's own Registered Dietitians. Pro gives full editing tools plus a large library of pre-built meal plans across many diet types.

Macro tracking, check-ins, telehealth and payments are not mentioned on the company's own pages, so treat them as unconfirmed rather than absent. Best for a trainer who wants a large ready-made meal plan library to hand clients rather than build plans from scratch.

MealLogger: photo food journaling

Starting price

Clients included

Meal plans
Not published
Client app
Yes

MealLogger Pro is a photo-based food journaling app: clients photograph what they eat, get AI-analysed nutrition and macro information, and share it with a coach for feedback. It is sold in several editions for practitioners, researchers, clinics and larger healthcare organisations; a quote requires contacting them directly.

Best for a coach who wants a lightweight photo food-logging layer to pair with whatever they already use for programming. With no meal-plan builder described on its site, it is not a like-for-like alternative to the fuller platforms here, more a feature you would add on.

Where does Scraler fit?

Starting price
$49/mo (Plus, 50 clients)
Clients included
50 active (Plus)
Meal plans
Yes, native + recipes/cookbooks
Client app
iOS and Android

Scraler is coaching software for personal trainers, coaches and studios, not a clinical EHR: nutrition sits alongside the workout and programme builder rather than replacing a practice-management platform. A native meal plan builder, macro tracking, food logging, a recipe and cookbook library, and check-ins and questionnaires are all included from the entry plan, and clients get their own app to log food, follow plans and check in.

Payments are a Premium feature, not included at Plus, and the trial needs a card upfront though nothing is charged until it ends. Telehealth, clinical charting and insurance billing are not part of Scraler's plans, and it is newer and smaller than established fitness platforms.

If you are a dietitian under a clinical scope of practice, Practice Better, Healthie or Nutrium are the closer fit. If you coach nutrition as part of training clients, meal planning and macro tracking next to check-ins and payments in one app is what Scraler is built for; see pricing. If your clients already log in MyFitnessPal and you want to know what else exists, read MyFitnessPal alternatives for coaches.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best nutrition coaching app for personal trainers?
It depends on whether nutrition is the whole business or part of a training service. A trainer who coaches macros and food logging alongside workouts is better served by a combined platform such as Scraler; a nutrition-only practice that wants pre-built plans or templates might prefer Evolution Nutrition or That Clean Life.
Do I need dietitian software if I am a personal trainer, not a dietitian?
No. Software built for dietitians (Practice Better, Healthie) includes clinical charting, telehealth and billing aimed at licensed practitioners working under insurance. A trainer coaching general nutrition habits does not need that overhead and should stay inside their scope of practice.
What is the difference between meal planning software and a macro tracking app?
Meal planning software (like That Clean Life) builds a fixed menu of meals and recipes for a client to follow. A macro tracking or food-logging tool sets daily targets and records what the client actually ate, which suits clients who want flexibility rather than a set menu.
Does nutrition coaching software include a client app?
Most of the platforms compared here do, including Practice Better, Healthie, Nutrium, MealLogger and Scraler. That Clean Life is the exception: clients get a web link or branded PDF rather than a dedicated app.
Can I take payments through nutrition coaching software?
Some platforms include it: Nutrium includes Stripe-based payments in every plan (transaction fees apply), and Practice Better and Healthie include billing tools. In Scraler, payments are available from the Premium plan.
